Scanning
1. Stand alone Scanners
* “Twain “Scanners connect via a `USB` part for simple one-off page scanning
* Sometimes called `pull` Scanners when the process is initialized from the user PC
* Desktop scanners are very inexpensive and suited to small volume, single sheet
application.
2. Multifunction Scanners
* The main (LCD) screen has a clear set of different scanning options
* Fast scanning of multiple pages (typically 35.70 sheets per minute) via document
feeder.
* Double sided and A3 functionality

3. Key Functionality
- File format: User selects scan format: PDF, TIFF, and JPEG
- Resolution: 200 dpi (Implications for file size)
- Paper size
- Document Name- At time of scan for better retrieval
4. Destinations
- Email: Address books for scan to individual or multiple users
- Network Server: point to a user or
- Box on multi-function machines (to be retained permanently if required)
5. Technical
- SMB : Direct scanning internally for safe transmission
- FTP : Scanning via the web
- LDAP (Lightweight Directory) : look up destination address on the serve
- Eueryption: For high security
- Password: attach four digit numeric to scanned document required to release it
